FAQs

Q: Why should I make a recruitment video?

A: College coaches and scouts are looking for PROOF that you have the ability to play.  Sending a coach your high school stats isn’t going to help.  Why?  Simply because your high school stats don't mean much.  All college level players should have good stats in high school and often times they don't translate to the college level. Having video proof of you throwing in the upper 80s or running a 6.7 or faster 60 yr dash WILL get you noticed. Having good mechanics and driving a ball in the gap the other way or a pitcher with a good delivery with WILL make them pay attention.

Scouts and college coaches are relying on video more than ever now.

Nowadays, all MLB teams are making cuts to their scouting departments in an effort to save money.  With fewer scouts and less traveling it makes it tougher for players to be seen.  College coaches recruiting budgets are also shrinking making it harder for them to see players in person.

Making a professional video showcasing your tools and abilities is the single most important thing you can do to try and get noticed.  Don't wait for college coaches and scouts to find you.

Q: Am I too young/early or too late to make a video?

A: The majority of division 1 college programs start looking for players during the summer of a player's freshmen year in high school.  They often will follow them for another year or two.  Many top high school players will commit by their sophmore year.

It is never too late to make a video.  If you are a high school senior or a Junior College player and are not yet being recruited by a college, a video can play a huge role in getting you noticed.

If you are a college junior or senior and haven't been getting any looks from scouts then try to find out why. The unfortunate reality is most kids simply aren't good enough to play professionally.  If you think you have the ability but just haven't been seen then making a video could be the missing link you need to keeping you in the game.

Q: How do I get the video in the hands of college coaches?

A: All college websites have an athletic department section online.  If you don't see the head coach's contact info then look for an assistant coach or even try getting in touch with the person in charge of baseball operations.  The baseball operations person can be very helpful in making sure the proper people see your video.  If you have the Major League Video Package then Future Prospects Video will contact 3 schools that we feel like would be a good fit for you.

Q: Am I good enough to play in college?  What school is right for me?

A: I am a firm believer that if you a high school athlete and you want to play in college that there is a spot for you.  It might not be at a D1 powerhouse or the school of your dreams, but you can find a place to play if you really want it.  Sure you need some talent, but there are many Junior Colleges and DIII'3 that are just looking for bodies and someone with the acedemic grades to play.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with going to a smaller school like a NAIA, DII or DIII.  If you are good more often then not the scouts will find you.  The key is finding a school where you can play at and Future Prospects Video can help you with that.

Q: Are there any guarantees that Future Prospects Video offer?

A: There are no guarantees that you will receive a scholarship or get drafted by a Major League baseball team from using our services.  However, I will guarantee that you will not find anyone more qualified that is capable of filming, editing, offering instruction and giving you an honest scouting evaluation than Ryan Lakey - owner of Future Prospects Video.
